West Bengal Chief Minister has introduced a new scheme amid the corona pandemic which will benefit lakhs of students of the state the name of the scheme is the WB Student Credit Card Scheme and via this, students will get a soft loan of up to Rs 10 lakh without a guarantor at only 4 percent interest rate. The state government will become the guarantor of the students and students will get 15 years to repay this loan. Matriculation pass students will also be able to take advantage of this scheme for higher education. The virtual launch of this scheme was done in the presence of the Education Minister, Finance Minister, Vice-Chancellors of Universities, DMs, SPs, Bankers, and Press of all the districts. Mamta Banerjee termed this plan the world’s biggest and most unique scheme. CM said that students are the future of the state and the country and for their better future, the government has started this scheme.

CM Mamta Banerjee said that students will be able to take advantage of this scheme from the 10th onwards. From class 11 students to research scholars, students will be able to take loans through credit cards. The Chief Minister said that students up to the age of 40 years would be able to take advantage of this scheme. She also said that the government is giving books, school bags, shoes, and uniforms to cycles for free. The Chief Minister of West Bengal said that her government has distributed tablets to the students of class 12th and smartphones have been given to the students. Now the government has started this scheme, the benefit of which will be available to students preparing for inter, undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and engineering besides competitive exams.
Mamta Banerjee said that all Indian students living in West Bengal for the last 10 years will be eligible to take advantage of this scheme. She has asked the officials that this scheme should not be misused, it needs to be monitored and for this, monitoring will have to be done at the district level. This west Bengal student credit card scheme has been started by the Government of West Bengal and it has been started for higher education of students in this, students can take loans up to Rs 10 lakh for doing any kind of bachelor’s or master’s degree, doctorate, research, etc. Students of class 10th or above will be able to take advantage of this scheme and will be able to complete their further studies.
